A refreshing, fruit-forward take on the classic derby cocktail. This easy drink features muddled fresh blackberries, aromatic mint, and smooth bourbon over crushed ice.

Ingredients
  

  • 5–6 fresh blackberries Plus extra for garnish
  • 6–8 fresh mint leaves Plus a sprig for garnish
  • ½ ounce simple syrup Adjust based on berry sweetness
  • 2 ounces bourbon whiskey Four Roses or your preferred brand
  • 1 cup crushed ice Finely crushed is essential

Equipment

  • 1 muddler For pressing berries
  • 1 julep cup or rocks glass For serving
  • 1 Bar spoon For stirring

Method
 

  1. Place the blackberries, mint leaves, and simple syrup in the bottom of a glass.
  2. Gently press the mixture with a muddler until the berries release their juices.

  3. Pour the bourbon directly over the muddled fruit and stir gently.

  4. Fill the glass completely with crushed ice and stir vigorously until frosty.

  5. Top with a dome of extra crushed ice, and garnish with a blackberry and mint sprig.

Notes
