- Peel, core, and slice the apples evenly, then toss them in a large bowl with the lemon juice.
- Cook the apples, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a skillet over medium heat until the fruit softens slightly.
- Stir the cornstarch and caramel sauce into the skillet, then let the mixture cool completely.
- Roll out the bottom pie crust and place it in a 9-inch glass pie dish.
- Pour the cooled apple filling into the crust, mounding it slightly in the center.
- Cover with the second pie crust, crimp the edges tightly, and cut several slits in the top for steam to escape.
- Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 50 minutes until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.
