- Preheat your waffle iron to medium-high heat until the ready indicator light turns on.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, granulated sugar, and salt.
- In a separate medium bowl, beat the buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until completely smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold with a spatula until just combined. A few lumps are okay.
- Sprinkle the chocolate chips into the batter and fold gently two or three times to distribute evenly.
- Pour batter onto the center of the hot iron and close the lid gently. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown and steam stops escaping.
- Carefully lift from the iron and serve immediately with sliced bananas and warm maple syrup.
