A smooth, low-acid cold brew coffee made with coarse grounds and filtered water. This foolproof pitcher technique yields a rich concentrate overnight.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup coarse ground coffee Dark or medium roast preferred
  • 4 cups filtered water Cold or room temperature
  • ice cubes For serving
  • milk or cream Optional, to taste

Equipment

  • 1 large pitcher For steeping
  • 1 Fine mesh strainer For removing grounds
  • 1 cheesecloth or paper filter For catching fine sediment

Method
 

  1. Pour the coarse ground coffee into a large pitcher and slowly add the filtered water in a circular motion to saturate the grounds.

  2. Cover the pitcher and let the mixture steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 12 to 18 hours.

  3. Pour the steeped liquid slowly through a fine mesh strainer lined with cheesecloth into a clean bowl.

  4. Serve the rich concentrate poured over ice, diluted with water or milk to taste.
