Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups boiling water Filtered water is best
  • 6 black tea bags Standard size
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar Adjust sweetness to taste
  • teaspoon baking soda Removes bitterness
  • 4 cups cold water To shock the tea
  • ¾ cup fresh lemon juice Freshly squeezed only
  • ice cubes For serving

  • 1 large pitcher For serving and mixing

  • 1 Citrus juicer To juice lemons

Method
 

  1. Bring 4 cups of filtered water to a rolling boil in a medium saucepan.

  2. Remove from heat, add tea bags, and let steep for 5 minutes until deep amber in color.
  3. Carefully remove the tea bags without squeezing them.
  4. Stir in the granulated sugar and baking soda until completely dissolved in the hot tea.

  5. Pour the hot mixture into a large pitcher and stir in the cold water and fresh lemon juice.

  6. Serve immediately over glasses filled with ice and garnish with lemon slices.

Notes
