Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup fresh yellow peach slices Ripe and juicy
  • 6-8 leaves fresh mint Plus extra sprig for garnish
  • 2 ounces Kentucky straight bourbon High quality preferred
  • ½ ounce simple syrup Optional, adjust to taste
  • 2 cups crushed ice Do not use cubed ice

Equipment

  • 1 julep cup or highball glass For serving
  • 1 wooden muddler To crush ingredients
  • 1 Bar spoon For gentle stirring

Method
 

  1. Place the chilled glass on your counter and add the fresh peach slices and mint leaves to the bottom.
  2. Press down firmly with a muddler five or six times until the juices release.

  3. Pour the bourbon and simple syrup directly over the muddled mixture and stir gently with a long spoon.

  4. Fill the glass completely to the brim with crushed ice, packing it into a tight mound.

  5. Tuck a fresh mint sprig and a peach slice into the top layer of ice before serving immediately.

Notes

Store any leftover muddled fruit in the refrigerator for up to two hours. Slap the garnish sprig before adding it to the glass to release extra fragrant oils.
