  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted Plus extra for greasing pan
  • 1 cup granulated sugar White sugar for classic texture
  • 2 large eggs Room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Pure extract is best
  • ½ cup bittersweet chocolate (60-70%) Melted and cooled slightly
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour Spoon and leveled
  • ¼ cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder Sifted to remove lumps
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt Fine grain
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips For the ganache
  • cup heavy cream Hot, for the ganache
  • 2 tablespoon Valentine's sprinkles Hearts and pink/red mix

Equipment

  • 1 9x9 inch baking pan Metal preferred
  • 1 heart cookie cutter Metal for sharp edges
  • 2 Mixing bowls Medium and large
  • 1 Whisk For beating eggs
  • 1 Spatula For folding batter

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x9 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk melted butter and sugar together, then beat in eggs and vanilla until pale.

  3. Stir in melted chocolate, then fold in flour, cocoa powder, and salt until just combined.

  4. Pour into pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  5. Cool completely in the pan, then lift out and use a heart cutter to cut shapes.
  6. Pour hot cream over chocolate chips, let sit 2 minutes, then whisk until smooth.
  7. Spoon ganache over brownies and top immediately with sprinkles before serving.
