Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (90% lean) Leaner is better for less grease
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Fresh is best
  • ¼ cup dark brown sugar, packed Provides the caramel flavor
  • ¼ cup soy sauce Low sodium recommended
  • 2 teaspoon toasted sesame oil Adds nutty aroma
  • ½ teaspoon fresh ginger, grated Or ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes Adjust to taste
  • 2 stalks green onions, sliced For garnish
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds For garnish
  • 4 cups cooked white rice For serving

Method
 

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef.

  2. Cook beef, breaking it apart, until browned and no pink remains.
  3. Whisk together brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, red pepper, and garlic in a small bowl.
  4. Pour sauce over the beef and simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce glazes the meat.

  5. Serve immediately over hot rice garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.
